This is the cheats guide to homemade quick aioli dip. This garlic sauce recipe is made with mayo and mustard and is perfect for burgers, crab cakes, brussel sprouts. I love to use this recipe if I want a different sauce to use instead of just mayo and this one is perfect to bring flavour in a hurry.

Ingredients in our Aioli recipe

The name Aioli means garlic and oil coming from Mediterranean cuisine. There is always a question behind aioli vs mayo. A traditional recipe for aioli would contain only those two ingredients; garlic and oil. However, many modern recipes use eggs as a variation which makes the aioli similar to mayonnaise.

For this cheats version of quick aioli, we are using mayo (your preferred brand, I use hellman’s or homemade mayonnaise if you have). Also adding in mustard, black pepper, salt, minced garlic and olive oil. For the mustard, I use wholegrain however dijon can be used.

Serve with Carrot Fries as a healthy alternative

Uses for Aioli

If you are like me and love aioli, you will find almost anything goes with it. In the video, I serve it with carrot fries, which is literally chopped carrot fingers roasted. This is really delicious and works will any roasted vegetable like potatoes and brussel sprouts.. There are so many other dishes to serve with aioli. Fries, burgers, crab cakes or use as a dipping sauce with crackers or bread.

Make it Vegan

It is easy to make this recipe vegan by replacing the mayo for a vegan mayonnaise. All other ingredients are vegan including wholegrain mustard.

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp Wholegrain Mustard
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tsp Minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Olive Oil

Instructions

  • If making with carrot fries. First chop the carrots into thick slices then spread on a baking sheet with a pinch of salt and drizzle of olive oil and roast for 20 minutes at 190°C
  • For the aioli dip, add all the ingredients into a bowl and mix thoroughly to combine.
  • If serving immediately garnish with coriander or parsley (dried or fresh). Cover and store in the fridge for 1 week.
