Easy Harissa Seasoning
Harissa seasoning is a blend of spices and hot peppers, which is commonly made as a paste form made with oil. So we want to share with you our super quick recipe for recreating an easy homemade harissa seasoning.
What is Harissa?
A classic Harissa spice blend is known for its sweet and smoky flavour yet most importantly it will bring lots of spice and heat to your dish. Coming from Tunisia and is a staple in Middle Eastern cuisine. This paste is usually used as a marinade or as a dip. Our recipe below is an easy homemade powder of dry spice blend.
Ingredients in Harissa Seasoning
To make Harissa paste will need dried chillies and roasted pepper. This will bring a vibrant red colour to the dish. For the dry mix , we will use chillies, smoked paprika and traditional harissa spices such as coriander, caraway and cumin as well as garlic and salt.
How to use Harissa Seasoning
I don’t eat a whole lot of spicy foods, but I do enjoy heat every now and again. Which is why this powder is great to make then store away in the cupboard until next time.
Harissa powder works great as a rub for seasoning onto meat joints like steaks and chicken. It is also a perfect spice blend to add to Middle Eastern dishes like stews and soups. I add a teaspoon of the seasoning per person to the dish.
I commonly use harrisa powder as a seasoning for couscous or on roasted vegetables and chickpeas – really delicious!
