Here are some of the top jackfruit recipes vegan and utterly delicious! Jackfruit, or chakka is the largest tree-borne fruit in the world. As we move more and more to finding meat-alternatives, Jackfruit is proved to be a relatively cheap, arguably more eco-friendly crop and absolutely delicious alternative. Therefore here is a list of my favourite recipes with jackfruit!

WHAT IS JACKFRUIT?

If you are yet to try Jackfruit, if eaten fresh it has a sweet taste, perhaps the in between of a banana or apple. Dried jackfruit is chewy with a sweet honey-like taste. Dehydrated jackfruit pieces don’t seem to taste of much whereas if you boil jackfruit the flavour becomes more dense and savoury. It isn’t just the taste which is the marvel of jackfruit. When cooked, the texture of the jackfruit almost mimics a tenderly cooked meat, like pulled pork. It shreds apart but the density will absorb any flavours creating a delicious meat replacement. In addition, the jackfruit is abundant with minerals and vitamins so is a healthy addition.

01: BBQ JACKFRUIT BY MINIMALIST BAKER

I believe this was the recipe I used when I cooked Jackfruit for the very first time and I fell in love. The Minimalist Baker has some amazing meat-alternative recipes and this is a perfect example. It is a take on BBQ pulled-pork, yet so simple. The recipe uses canned jackfruit which is slow cooked filled with flavour and shredded to serve. Utterly mouthwatering, I would even say it tastes better a pulled-pork BBQ sandwich. So even if you aren’t looking for vegan meals, this is one to try for it’s delicious flavour.

05: JACKFRUIT NO-TUNA MELT BY LIV VEGAN STRONG

I love a sandwich, tuna melt in particular. So this meat-less sandwich with jackfruit was right up my street! This recipe shows the incredible versatility of flavour jackfruit holds. There is a lot of ingredients involved in making this, but oh my gosh is it worth it! This recipe doesn’t require cooking the jackfruit, it gets minced with celery, carrot and red onion and packed full of seasoning like dijon mustard, dill and garlic powder. Then using a pan of sandwich press, toasted to melted perfection with vegan cheese and your favourite bread.
